it’s been what, 6 years? and ajay t was already making malaysia home even pre-bates, so it strangely felt like waving a fellow char siew fan “kaki” goodbye. apparently he didn’t pack off coz he hated the cushy managing director’s chair in the corner office, no way jose (in fact he blushingly admits to having fun playing big daddy and running his fingers over figures, er, numbers), just that the temptation of being an executive creative director again zooming about in a bentley packed with french supermodels was too hard to resist. okay, so we made that french bit up.

anyway. so yeah, here’s to you, mister t aka 3vix aka thriviks aka ajay thrivikraman. it was a great ride, we’ll miss you, and yes, we know you would’ve voted for the opposition too!

mud was slung, accusations hurled, bribes thrown about none too discreetly (joseph promising twisties to his staunch supporters) but finally the gruelling 12-hour long campaign came to an end.

and who came up on top, victorious and 200 smackeroos richer?

none other than suet.

our shifty-eyed siau was a clear favourite, blowing the others clean out of the water. proving once again that great things can never be achieved without a little sweat (pun alert!).

officiating the kill win was mr. t and khaw (eyeing the mock cheque suspiciously), both commented on the wonderful show of office-wide enthusiasm while wondering about the lack of such spirit during pitch season.

it was tough. simon, paula & randy aka ajay, ajay & roni were drained from sifting through the eye-opening (sorry, can’t help it) standard of entries. just goes to show what some carrot, in this case an RM200 carrot no less, could do to improve work quality. anyway, in the true spirit of co-creation plus the fact that we’re living in the powerful age of consumer’s voice, the judges have decided to go all american idoly and let the public choose the winner!

after the bates141 rebranding kick-off, there was a mad scrabble for ping pong balls. surprised? mr. t offered a lucrative incentive – RM200 to the best designed ping pong eye ball.

the judges, roni and ajayB, are deliberating as we speak. who, who, who, will come out on top? so far we’ve already caught sight of a few entries, and they’ve blown our socks (if we had any) off.

our money is on joseph’s bloody eye, tara’s flower beauty and sharon’s obscenely intricate multi-hued masterpiece.

hey look at that! it’s a bird, a plane, a pair of knocke… oh wait, it’s ivan the (unofficially christened) bates141 rebranding mascot. bates and 141 have all the while been working undeniably well together for the past few years naturally as a team, and with the advent of change change change, it was only expected and fitting that we’d eventually become bona fide partners-in-crime. so, people, crack open a beer, pat yourselves on the back for a great run and look forward to a new generation in “change”. this is where we’ll leave you with some parting words of wisdom stolen from marvel.

okay, so the headline has got absolutely nothing to do with the content. so anyway. mr managing director ajay t’s announcement of leaving the agency – and the country – caught more than a few of us by surprise. even more so upon finding out the company trip that he promised us for in 2008 (and made good too) will be devoid of… him. everyone was looking forward to spending some quality time with him over ping pong ball shows in nana plaza bkk, but surprise surprise, the date has been postponed. nonetheless we’re still hoping he’d be able to skive off from the new office that weekend and join us sloshing about sukhumvit and chanting bargains in chattuchak.

we found this while rummaging through some old pics and can’t believe we never posted it then. well, here it is now. because. how did we ever let her go? sigh. anyone wants her back? let’s see a show of hands. jack trade: “yesssss”, tan kuai lan: “ngo oi!”, amy: “hmmmph!”, jeremy: “why hello there”

april fool’s day left without saying hello this year. quite a relief after seeing the many many avenues open to pranksters with too much free time on their hands, ranging from mildly amusing to those that are truly evil.

google has never failed to impress with super creative april fool’s features (outrageous yet believable): mentalplex, the TiSP or toilet internet service provider, and this year’s custom time to send mails back into the past. still going strong, old buddy.

but youtube… wow.

if you’re any part geek at all, you’ll know about the current internet meme of “rickroll’ing“. so let us tell you how blown away we were when, yesterday, youtube’s wall of featured videos all turned out to be rickrolls. all. every single last one.

youtube, you rock.

with sounds from the studio boys’ drowning out all coherence (think shanon’s endless repetition of… simple plan), we thought it nice to find out what music keeps the rest of us sane.

mr. t has a light & easy mix of travis, joss stone, the cure (greatest hits, of course). his not-so-secret vice is trainwreck darling amy winehouse.

we found chris ng (of f&n fame) snapping his fingers and wiggling his hips to the cure’s “friday i’m in love” and ramones’ “what i like about you”.
